How to Add a Clickable Link to a TikTok Bio
TikTok gives you very little link real estate, and most of what people try doesn't work. Here's what actually does.
Captions are not clickable
A URL typed in a caption renders as plain text. Nobody retypes it. If you've been putting links in captions, that traffic isn't small — it's essentially zero.
The same goes for comments in most cases: link-bearing comments are heavily filtered and often hidden.
The bio link is the real slot
The website field in your profile is the one reliably clickable link you have.
To add it: Profile → Edit profile → Website → paste your URL → Save.
Availability of the website field has historically varied by account type and region. If you don't see it, switching to a Business account in Settings usually surfaces it, and a Business account is free.
Make the link earn its place
You get one slot, so the decision is what it points at.
One destination at a time. If you're promoting one thing, point the bio link straight at it. Fewer taps to the thing you want, and better conversion than a menu page.
A page you control if you genuinely need several destinations. See the link in bio problem for how to do that without renting a third-party address.
Make it repointable. Use a short link so you can change the destination without editing your profile. TikTok priorities change weekly; profile edits are friction you don't need.
Tracking, which TikTok won't do for you
This is where most people are flying blind.
TikTok's in-app browser strips the referrer, so taps arrive at your site as "direct". Your site analytics cannot tell you TikTok sent them. If you're posting on more than one platform, you genuinely cannot separate the traffic after the fact.
The fix is a dedicated short link for TikTok. Not the same link you use in your Instagram bio — a separate one. Then the tap count on that link is your TikTok number, no attribution required.
If the destination is your own site, add UTM parameters as well so the session gets attributed correctly there. Source tiktok, medium social.
Readability matters more here than elsewhere
TikTok decisions are fast. A bio link that looks like random characters gets fewer taps than one that reads as a destination — /shop, /menu, /booking. It's a small edit with a measurable effect, and it's free.
Practical notes
- Test on mobile, logged out, as a stranger sees it
- Check the destination is mobile-first. TikTok traffic is essentially 100% phone
- Keep it fast. A slow page loses the tap before it renders
- Watch the tap count by day — you'll see clearly which videos drove profile visits
- Don't reuse an old campaign's link for a new push; you'll never separate the numbers
The setup in full
- Business account if you need the website field
- One short link, readable back-half, pointing at today's priority
- UTMs on it if the destination is yours
- A different link for every other platform
- Repoint rather than edit the profile when priorities change
Create a TikTok bio link — repointable, readable, with tap analytics.
